Another day, another ramen joint to try.
Though there are a few locations around the city, Kenzo is a chain that I'd somehow never tried until the other day.
We arrived just before 5:00 on a recent weekday and the place was basically empty. We were seated near the back and yet it took an awfully long time for our order to be taken. (The food came out super quick, at least.)
I decided to order the King of Kings Ramen ("Spicy Netsu ramen with five toppings of roasted pork, sliced egg, fish cake, fresh seaweed and dried seaweed. Seasonal topping: marianted bamboo shoot") and indeed, it's quite an impressive (read: huge) bowl of food.
My first few sips of the broth were disappointing, as the soup doesn't really contain that richness of flavor that one associates with the very best ramen. But the more I ate, the more I enjoyed this dish. Once the various flavors begin blending together, the concoction becomes more and more tasty. The various components all work quite well together, and the roasted pork was surprisingly delicious (i.e. it didn't have the leftovery, gamey taste chashu sometimes has).
I was a little disappointed by the lack of heat in the dish, and the lack of hot chili oil or any kind of hot sauce on the table was regrettable, to say the least. Still, I'd definitely return to Kenzo to try some of their many other offerings. -

Had curry with the pork cutlet. Served with rice and miso soup and a small salad. It was good but not great. Service was lovely.
The ramen soup tasted nice but I just had a spoonful of each just to taste. -

I work in the area, and this used to be one of the cheap ramen places that my lunch group would go to once a week at least. The noodles themselves were mediocre (the quality/texture is nowhere near a place like kinton down the street, but the price reflects that) but they had a reasonable noodle-to-soup ratio.
That all changed when I went with a friend one weekend. The restaurant was empty and they sat the two of us at a long table. When we got the bill, my friend paid first and the tray with my bill was down the table just out of reach. I casually tossed my credit card into the tray, and the waiter gave me the machine to pay.... Then as soon as I finished punching in my PIN the waiter snatches the machine out of my hands, rips off the print out and the credit card and THREW it all in my face! (Yes he waited until after I had tipped him) My friend and I were both shocked at what just happened, and had this WTF look on our faces. At this point the old man behind the counter, I can only assume he's the manager or owner, started lecturing ME about it! Holy moly.
I have the last laugh though. Our lunch group hasn't gone to their restaurant in over 3 years. At 6 ppl x $10 per person x 50 weeks a year, I hope losing over $3000 a year of revenue was worth it. -

My girlfriend and I went to the other location previously (which closed down) so we remember it being pretty good. I've definitely had better, but this was still pretty good!
It's great that they have vegetarian options and can add tofu if you'd like.
The broth was flavorful and the contents of the soup all tasted fresh. One thing I noticed was there was no hot sauce or anything you can add to the soup on the table.
Service was quick and prompt (as soon as our water was empty, it was filled right back up!).
I would come back here to try some other flavours. -

Came here on a Friday night with M for ramen. I was pleasantly surprised that their meat options could be made vegetarian friendly. Even their broth could be changed. The service here is very friendly and they are on top of everything. As I finished drinking my water they were already over to refill it (there were other patrons in the restaurant as well). I really liked that their veggies were charred as I think it added extra flavour. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone craving ramen.
Parking is in the back and you have to pay for it...or it's easily accessible by ttc by getting off at Yonge and Sheppard.
